The "Troy" arrived at the port of New York July 13,1839 from Liverpool, England. This ship was built in 1834 in New York, the builder was "Brown & Bell", the owners were a family named "Macy". - According to testimony in his mother's civil war pension file for his brother William, Thomas had some bad debt and was accused of forgery. He was forced to leave the county and state around 1870 or 1865. His business partner was Thomas West. [1]

- Civil War pension file describes him as 5' 4", light complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. He was said to be born at East Creek, NY [2]
